APPLICATION / FIREXNULL
Microcapsule Fire Suppression Additive for Coatings and Materials
For formulators and OEMs, FXN-M200 provides microcapsule additive technology for evaluation in compatible coatings and materials. The finished formulation must be independently evaluated and validated.
FireXNull products are designed as supplemental protection, not as substitutes for code-required fire protection systems. Review technical documentation and confirm fit for the application.

IN SHORT
A Fire Suppression Additive for Compatible Materials.
FXN-M200 is a heat-activated, microencapsulated fire suppression additive for industrial and professional formulators. Supplied as a free-flowing powder, it is incorporated into compatible protective coatings, polymers, adhesives, sealants and composites, where the microcapsules release FK-5-1-12 clean agent locally when heated to approximately 284°F (140°C). Performance depends on the final cured system and must be validated by the integrating manufacturer. FXN-M200 is not a finished fire suppression system and does not replace code-required fire protection.
01 / HOW IT WORKS
From Encapsulated Agent to a Local Response.
The microcapsule supplies the heat-responsive mechanism. The host material and application determine how effectively that mechanism performs.
- 1. Agent containedA thermoset polymer shell holds FK-5-1-12 during proper storage, handling and compatible low-energy processing.
- 2. Shell activatesSufficient heat ruptures the shell at approximately 284°F (140°C), TGA-verified in product. This is not the activation temperature of FireXNull finished products.
- 3. Agent releases locallyReleased FK-5-1-12 vapor absorbs heat and cools the ignition zone. No power, sensors, wiring, pressure cylinder or manual action is required.
02 / WHERE IT IS EVALUATED
Host Systems and End Uses Under Evaluation.
Typical evaluation platforms include high-build epoxy and polyurethane mastic systems, 2K aliphatic polyurethane, polyaspartic systems, selected acrylic emulsions, adhesives, sealants, foams and composite binders. Compatibility must be validated for each formulation.

04 / INCORPORATION
Protect Capsule Integrity During Processing.
- Complete all high-energy dispersion steps before adding FXN-M200.
- Add the powder late in the process to the fully combined binder system.
- Use controlled low-energy dispersion. Avoid grinding, milling, crushing and high-shear mixing.
- Avoid strong acids, strong alkalis, aggressive solvents and conditions that may swell or degrade the shell.
- Screen dispersion, viscosity, settling, pot life, adhesion, film integrity and capsule damage before scale-up.

|---|---|
| Formulation | Dispersion, compatibility and capsule survival in the host system |
| Application | Layer design, film build, adhesion and material uniformity |
| Fire performance | Response under fire exposure and end-use conditions representative of the intended use |
| Durability | Aging, environment and service-life requirements |
| Regulatory | Market-specific review, labeling and end-use requirements for the final product |
05 / THE CLEAN AGENT
The Agent and the Finished Material Are Different.
FK-5-1-12 is electrically non-conductive and is intended to leave no agent residue. That does not mean a heated coating or finished assembly leaves no shell fragments, host-material residue or combustion by-products. Possible high-temperature by-products include CO2, CO, trace hydrogen fluoride and traces from shell or host-material decomposition.
06 / COMMON QUESTIONS
Common Questions.
Is FXN-M200 a finished fire-rated coating?
No. It is a component additive for incorporation by industrial and professional formulators. Fire suppression performance depends on the final cured system and must be validated by the formulator.
Does FXN-M200 activate at the same temperature as FXN Sticker, Rope or Tape?
No. FXN-M200 shell rupture is approximately 284°F (140°C). Finished products have their own construction and specifications. Do not transfer their activation values or test results to an FXN-M200 formulation.
Can I add FXN-M200 to any paint or resin?
No. Compatibility is not universal. Binder chemistry, solvents, processing energy, cure conditions and film design affect capsule integrity and final performance. Start with a small compatibility screen.
How is the loading level determined?
Starting guidance is provided in the current TDS. Final loading is set by the formulator's lab for the target host system and validated against the intended fire test and end-use conditions.
Does the 12-month shelf life describe the cured coating?
No. It describes the powder in original sealed packaging under specified storage conditions. Service life in a cured host material is application-specific.
Is FXN-M200 suitable for consumer products?
FXN-M200 is not intended for consumer use, food-contact, medical or prolonged skin-contact applications unless separately validated by the integrating manufacturer.
Who handles regulatory review for the final product?
The integrating manufacturer. Agent-level references, such as EPA SNAP listing of FK-5-1-12, do not certify a finished FXN-M200 formulation, and requirements vary by market and end use.
Which documents should my team request?
Request the current FXN-M200 Technical Data Sheet and Safety Data Sheet, then discuss your binder, processing method, substrate, environment and evaluation goals with FireXNull.
FXN-M200 is a functional additive, not a standalone extinguisher or a finished fire suppression system. It does not replace code-required detection, alarms, sprinklers or other fire protection. Final formulation, end-use suitability and performance require validation by the integrating manufacturer.
