What Is a Passive Fire Suppression Coating?

"Passive" means the protection is always on and reacts by itself, without electricity, wiring, or a person to trigger it. A passive fire suppression coating carries a fire-stopping agent inside the coating layer. Under normal conditions it behaves like any ordinary finish. But if the surface overheats or a fire starts, the coating releases its agent right at the hot spot and suppresses the fire before it spreads.

How FireXNull Makes It Work

The technology is built on microencapsulation. Each microscopic capsule holds a sealed dose of FK-5-1-12 clean agent inside a heat-responsive shell. Mixed into a coating during formulation, thousands of these capsules become part of the cured surface. They stay inactive at normal temperatures and rupture the instant heat crosses their trigger point — releasing the agent directly at the point of ignition.

Because the protection lives inside the material itself, there are no sensors, no wiring, no pressure vessels, and nothing to switch on. Protection is continuous and automatic for the life of the coating. The FK-5-1-12 agent is a clean agent — electrically non-conductive and residue-free — which makes it well suited to sensitive electrical and electronic surfaces.
